Welcome to Lunashire is a VR exhibition that immerses you in the vibrant worlds of 1960s British youth culture, optimistic futurism, and the thrill of the space race.
What would have happened if Lancashire won the space race and set up a Butlins-style colony on the moon? Now you can find out!
Cue our 6-minute VR immersive experience.
You start in a dreary 1950s living room, complete with TV and nostalgic paraphernalia. Here, you’re handed an unusual brochure—a virtual reality tourism film like no other.
Put on a VR headset, and you’re transported to Lunashire—a Lancashire-inspired resort on the Moon. Narrated by a charismatic transatlantic guide, you’re sold on the dream of a “Bultins”-style resort with job opportunities from the Ditchburn Moon Department, a jukebox factory which has been brick by brick transported from Latham-st-Ann’s to the moon. But Lunashire isn’t all work; it’s a utopia offering everything from moon pod mansions and Space Vespas to late-night bars showcasing the latest off-earth dance crazes.
So, what are you waiting for? Join the intergalactic family on Lunashire!
Created by Tom and Lauren from You’re Most Welcome and commissioned by George Harris and Carolyn Primett of Mirador Arts and funded by the Arts Council. This immersive VR exhibition is not to be missed.
